"Ride a cock-horse to Banbury Cross. To see a fine lady upon a white horse;

Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes, She'll make music wherever she goes."

Banbury Cross was purchased in 1970- by Judy and Mack McGaughan after arriving from Nevada. While Mack and Judy began as western trail riders, they quickly caught the Maryland fever for fox hunting which led them to the discovery of eventing and dressage in a BIG WAY! All of the McGaughan children were riders, belonging to the New-Market hunt club and the Frederick Pony Club, where Judy ran the summer senior camps and Mack was the DC.

In the early years, Judy used her special ed degree to help establish a handicapped riding program at Banbury Cross. Long before this was a legitimate field of endeavor BCF provided therapy to 100 students weekly, which was unheard of at that time. Judy later expanded her teaching to training pony clubbers and adults in dressage and providing clinics with the top trainers coming to BCF.

At Banbury Cross riding has always been a family affair. Judy and Mack encouraged all of the McGaughan children to ride together from an early age but it was her son Patrick (better known as Packy) who took it all the way to the top by being selected to be a member of the USA equestrian eventing team riding Tanzer, Judy's first dressage horse.

Banbury Cross is now run by mother and son team- Judy and Packy McGaughan and offers services from lessons and training in both dressage and jumping to breeding and sales. How can we help you?
